Household survey 2024 completed in Thailand

Ubon Ratchathani: The team of Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), headed by Nopporn Tantisirin, successfully completed the household and village head surveys in the three provinces in Thailand (Nakhon Phanom, Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram). A total of 2,098 households have been interviewed over a period of six weeks. The team consisted of 30 enumerators and six team leaders. To monitor and improve the quality of the survey data, a team of ten data checking assistants and field supervisors manually reviewed each questionnaire for inconsistencies and implausible answers.

Furthermore, to improve panel consistency and provide a user-friendly, easily mergeable dataset for all survey waves, the following measures have been taken: a group of six researchers from the Universities of Hannover, Göttingen and Cologne analyzed the incoming data in a systematic manner. This included identifying inconsistencies both within the current wave and across previous survey waves, with particular attention to panel characteristics such as socio-demographic data. A key focus was on ensuring the congruence of member’s ID variables, along with verifying age, gender, education, and ethnicity for each household member to enhance individual traceability across waves. When inconsistencies were identified, households were re-contacted—either by a dedicated call center team or directly by enumerators—to correct and document errors.
